Bernard Aaron Dolecki - Exchange Student

My name is Bernard Aaron Dolecki and I study Fine Art the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, New York. 

“As humans we try to formulate order. My passion is to explore the land of the unknown and combine various concepts and mediums to create new forms of order.” says Bernard. 

I am here in Wolverhampton, UK to study Visual Communication as an exchange student. Design has always been a type ‘visual candy’ for me; I find it stimulating and it ignites my curiosity. I chose Wolverhampton because the program is positive, the cost is similar, and I can, of course speak the language. I have embarked on this adventure to analyze, conceptualize and formulate new ideas to meld with my current knowledge. 

I have a great willpower that is the driving force behind my inquisitive, exploratory, and labor-intensive working methods. I dedicate myself not only to in-class projects but also frequent independent studies. 

At the juried student exhibition at the close of my Associate Degree study, I was awarded Best in Show. At the end of my three semester long senior year, I aim to capture this accomplishment once more. Traveling around the United Kingdom and having the chance to meet and study with some interesting people has been both wonderful and stimulating. It has expanded my mind and has been a wonderful source of design inspiration; nothing short of an amazing experience.

The Derwent Art Prize

The first Derwent Art prize has been announced. This is a competition freely open to anyone who produces works in pencil.

The prize offers a total of £8,750 to artists working in this versatile medium and is open to artists over 18 throughout the world.

Deadline for entries will be 11:59pm on 1 July 2013. An exhibition of the shortlisted works will be on show at the Mall Galleries, London, 16th - 21st September.

Student Internship: The Library of Lost Books

We are looking for people who are interested in an internship with a Birmingham based art project called The Library of Lost Books. Our project sent out old, discarded library books to 50 selected artists from around the UK. They re-made and reworked the books and sent them back to us to be exhibited as The Library of Lost Books. We are exhibiting the books in Wolverhampton and in the new Library of Birmingham in 2013 and planning exhibitions in other venues across the UK. We also manage a library membership scheme and are writing a book about the project with Jessica Glaser, Senior Lecturer in Graphic Communication.

If you would like to become an intern with us you could be invited to help in a variety of ways, from helping with our marketing and membership program to hands-on assistance with all aspects of curating and setting up the exhibition; in the process you will have a fantastic opportunity to learn about what it takes to run a contemporary arts project and have an opportunity to meet the artists and project partners.

We need interns who have excellent making and creative skills, however we also need people who are literate, knowledgeable users of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and blogging platforms to help us with design, merchandising and marketing. The project is run from our lovely office in the heart of the creative district in Birmingham, close to the Custard Factory. It is a 15 minute walk from New Street Station, Birmingham. The project is currently run entirely voluntarily, however we may be able to help you with travel costs. We will provide tea and coffee and probably cake, too.

Bureau for Visual Affairs is seeking a part time (three days a week) Studio Manager to ensure the smooth running of the studio and support our team of ten.

Based near London’s Borough Market, we create progressive websites, applications and brands for clients in the cultural and commercial sector – among them the Tate, National Gallery, Damien Hirst and Whistles.

This is an extremely varied role and would suit someone that is exceptionally well organised, has meticulous attention to detail and a keen interest in arts and culture.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:Monitoring internal book keeping, with support from the studio’s accountant.

Human resources (holiday allocation, employment contracts, schedule staff reviews, reimbursements, assist with recruitment etc.).

Liaise with suppliers to ensure maximum profitability whilst maintaining quality standards.

Taking a lead role in the administration of a popular contemporary art listings website, operated by the agency.

Experience working at a design studio and an understanding of the creative and production process for digital projects would be beneficial, but is not essential.

3 Month Internship – 3d visualisation/project runner

We’re looking for fulfil our 3D visualisation/project runner role. We are looking for an intern with a great attitude to join our team for a 3 month placement. It would be a great start in the world of 3D and possibly lead onto a permanent role.

Who are we?

Dowling Jones & Stone are a successful and growing CGI and Photography studio based in SW London. We provide developers, architects and construction companies with professional Computer Generated Images, Photography and Animations.

YOU NEED TO HAVE:

• Be fluent in Photoshop in a Mac based environment
• Have high levels of attention to detail.
• Knowledge of CGI production/3d Modelling.
• Have a great attitude to work, want to impress and learn more.
• Have the ability to work well under pressure and we aware of work flow and deadlines.
• A desire to understand architecture and communicate in 3D.
• Be part of a team that loves to achieve results together.
• We are based in Fulham so you need to be able to get into work relatively easily.
• Ability to work in the UK.
