Junior Designer - Qubit, London

Qubit is looking for a junior designer to join our growing team in Soho. Currently undergoing a complete re-brand, we need a highly skilled designer to advance our print and digital materials.  You’ll have to be experienced working in the digital sector and be looking for a new challenge working at one of London’s fastest-growing start-ups.

This is a one month placement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Designing and producing all our rebranded collateral - print and digital.

Creating interesting animations for our website and presentations.

Providing creative input and helping to develop creative solutions to our clients’ problems.

Helping to provide support and direction to our junior designers across our Client, Development and Marketing teams.

What We Are Looking For

Either a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience

Strong skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Motion graphics or animation skills are valuable

CSS or HTML and other web design languages would be beneficial

Experience working in the digital sector

An eye for design with usability in mind

What you'll need:
• A Degree, or equivalent, in Graphic Design

• Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat etc. 

• A good grounding in After Effects would be an advantage.

This years Visual Communication department Degree Show opens on Saturday June 1.

Each year students from the entire School of Art and Design celebrate their time at the University by showcasing their work to local schools, colleges, businesses and the wider public. The exhibition is free and all are welcome

In June 2013, artwork from over 300 students across 16 BA (Hons) and BDes (Hons) courses will be on display, embracing the areas of applied arts, digital media, fashion and textiles, fine art, graphic communication, illustration, interior design, photography and product design. make a note in your diary and be sure to come along

Matt Jones - Shortlisted for the Penguin Design Award 2013

Matt Jones, illustration MA student has been shortlisted for Penguin Design Award 2013. This is the second time that Matt has been been shortlisted for this award which is hotly contested - this year attracting just under 1,400 entires.

"The Illustration subject team are delighted with Matt’s success. Producing a fresh, timeless, cover for a familiar book is a difficult task and to be shortlisted once is great, but to be shortlisted twice is a fantastic achievement" says John Clementson

Matt's design is for the children's classic, Wind in the Willows. His design and other shortlised works will be posted on the Penguin site by June 26.

"I am thrilled to be shortlisted for the Penguin Design Award 2013, The story of the Wind in the Willows is one of my fondest tales from childhood making this competition all the sweeter. It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this project and to be shortlisted for this award twice in the past four years is amazing, An achievement I am extremely proud of." says Matt

Just Have to Share - The NeoLucida, the First Portable Camera Lucida to be Manufactured in Nearly a Century

Before the photography print the Camera Lucida, designed by Sir William Hyde Wollaston was a clever optical device that used a prism to project an image onto a piece of paper so you could trace it. The device transformed lifedrawing. But they are not generally seen for sale today. Occasionally Ebay may feature antique Camera Lucidas selling at a high price. That is until today, university professors Pablo Garcia, previously from the Art Institute of Chicago and Golan Levin from Carnegie Mellon have designed the NeoLucida, the first portable camera lucida in nearly a century. Mantecón International Advertising Poster Competition

Terras Gauda Wineries and the Vigo Port Authority are again the sponsors of the  the Francisco Mantecón International Advertising Poster Competition. 
Any form of photographic, painting or computerised techniques,  may be used. Under exceptional circumstances originals created using painting techniques (oil, watercolours, guasch, pastels, etc) may be accepted without a computerised format.

Participant may base their entries on the theme of their choice, although ideally they will reflect corporate issues of the organising company, principally relating to its white wines of the Albariño variety Terras Gauda and Abadía de San Campio wines.

Digital Design Intern - Blackbridge, Central London

Design Intern

Opportunity for enthusiastic and creative digital design graduates to come and work with us in our studio for 2-4 weeks, with the potential to earn a permanent role within the creative team.

You’ll bring some new thinking to the table, along with a desire to learn and develop your potential within an agency environment. You will be working alongside other digital designers on a variety of live projects for some big brands.

We’re looking for someone with experience designing mainly for web, as well as other digital media. Any coding experience is also preferable.
