Graphic Design Intern - The Idle Man, London

The Idle Man is an online menswear start-up based in Shoreditch. Collectively we are a young team of writers, designers and buyers that all have a genuine passion for music, food and of course fashion.

We’re currently on the lookout for a creative and enthusiastic designer to join the team for a minimum of 2 weeks. So if you are available ASAP please get in touch.

Main Responsibilities
• Designing customer communications and newsletters 
• Working with our designers producing content for the site and other in-house projects
• Designing web pages and UX/UI elements
• Conveying seasonal concepts and themes in design work
• Designing advertising artwork for social media
• Help to establish the look, feel and functionality of the site
• Opportunity to collaborate with brands (Converse, Doc Martens, Levi’s, Edwin, Carhartt, etc)

Required Skills & Experience
• Preferably a recent design graduate
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to create eye-catching designs with the customer and brand ethos in mind
• Strong typographic and layout skills with an attention to detail
• Fresh design portfolio
• A strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop (Ai, Ae, Id is a plus)

Junior Designer - BURN, London

We’re looking for a Junior Designer/college graduate to join a growing creative department in a very busy integrated agency.

You’ll initially be working exclusively on emails for a blue chip luxury travel client, so knowledge of responsive email design is advantageous. But this is a permanent position, so once you’re established, there will be the opportunity to do more creative work on other agency accounts.

We need someone enthusiastic and highly motivated who is able to create layered photoshop files for desktop and mobile executions using existing templates, as well prepare pixel-perfect images to hand over to our web developers. A positive attitude and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are required.

Working closely with the Head of Creative, this is a great chance for someone to come in at ground level, learn how an agency works and gain invaluable experience.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is required as a minimum.

Lucie Williams - Graduate Success


Lucie Williams winner of the Penguin Design Awards (Children’s Prize) as a final-year Visual Communication student has been shortlisted for the prestigious Folio Society/House of Illustration award. Her designs for War Horse by Michael Morpurgo are show here
The competition is a unique partnership between House of Illustration and The Folio Society that seeks to identify and promote new talent in illustration. The annual international competition is open to illustrators over the age of 18, both student and professional, who have not been previously published by The Folio Society.

Each year entrants are asked to submit three illustrations and a binding design for a book chosen by The Folio Society. The winner receives a highly sought-after commission, worth £5,000, to complete a total of nine illustrations and a binding design for the book, which is then published by The Folio Society.

Just Have to Share - Vento by Virgilio Villoresi and Virginia Mori

Virgilio Villoresi and Virginia Mori have created a book that becomes animated once an optical film is placed over the pages. The technique—which dates back to pre-cinema—allows the characters’ shadows to flicker gently, hair to rustle in the wind, and waves to crash gently against a rowboat found within the books’ pages.

Titled Vento, the picture book is a result of Villoresi’s animation and Mori’s illustration, the Italian duo inspired to produce the book as an homage to the relationship between image and movement. Vento is the first in a series of animated books by Withstand Film that contain minimal plots to encourage readers to weave together their own interactive narrative.

Just Have to Share - Counter Press, Extra Condensed No.2

The Counter Press have just released issue 2 of their ‘little letterpress newspaper’ Extra Condensed No.2.

Issue No.2 of Extra Condensed has a numerical theme: from the origins of ‘spitting image’ to Stephenson Blake’s charming San Serif No.7, via the letter frequency and the printing of issue No.1. Every article also features its own pilcrow, each taken from a different fount in their collection.

Written, designed, typeset and printed by hand in a limited edition of just 200. Each issue is individually numbered and comes in a custom printed envelope.
