Graduate Success - Lena Matthies

Visual Communication MA graduate Lena Matthies has been in touch from Berlin to share some of her wonderful achievements since graduation.

"Having moved to Berlin, My first job was with a small organic cookie firm. www.knusperreich.de

I worked there for 4 months and gained experiences designing many different things including webpages, newsletters, shirts, flyers, corporate designs, and taking product pictures.

Since the beginning of June I have been working for mymuesli! I love what they produce: organic muesli, coffee, tea and orange juice. My new job is rich and varied. It is a great young team of 200 people (mainly working in the production) but in the office in Berlin there are 12 people. I design everything that is needed for the company - Websites, newsletters, flyers, packaging, cards, advent calendars, advertising banners and I take photographs too.
I even have my own "baby". A new tea brand 'tree of tea' that will appear on the market this month and I am the only designer for this project. I love it!

I also like Berlin very much! The city is full of energy, creativity and freedom. The people are cool, a little bit crazy, very straight, but always candid and pleasant.

Berlin is also awesome because of the "culture mix". Here are so many different people from all over the world, so that you have to speak English every day!

In my spare time, I have also been working freelance for a fashion design school in Berlin" says Lena

Congratulations Lena

Just have to share - Drawntheroadagain.com

Chandler O’Leary has been recording her travels in sketchbooks for years. She realised she had literally hundreds of drawings hidden away, and only a few close friends had ever seen them. She runs a small business as an illustrator and lettering artist, but somehow her travel sketches just didn’t…fit…with the story she had been weaving through her other work.

She travels a lot always with a sketch book. Drawntheroadagain.com is a collection of what Chandler has seen along the way, in no particular order. Just like sketchbooks, this site is a work in progress.

The Heath Town Project iTunes book

The University of Wolverhampton, Dr Peter Day, Senior Lecturer in Art and Design, and photography students, Jack Nelson and David Shepherd have collaborated with Heathfield Park Local Neighbourhood Partnership in creating the Heath Town Project.

The Heath Town Project is a photographic archive of some of the people living and working in Heath Town, Wolverhampton in 2013. The Heath Town Project explores the idea that individuals in any  one community are inextricably linked to and judged alongside the people whom they live with and amongst, and aims to create an alternate view.  These images and their accompanying stories are an introduction to the personalities and identities of the individual inhabitants of Heath Town, a small yet diverse area of Wolverhampton.  Rich in migrants and the inner city working classes, Heath Town is home to people from no fewer than 46 countries, as well as a deep and vibrant community of elders.

The project is part of the work undertaken by the Heathfield Park Local Neighbourhood Partnership, which is producing a Neighbourhood Plan for the area and photography projects created by the University of Wolverhampton.  The initial stages of the Plan included undertaking a Household Survey, the findings of which identified that the image and identity of the neighbourhood are deemed crucial to the area’s development and regeneration in the future.

This book is available for download on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iBooks and on your computer with iTunes. Books must be read on an iOS device.
