Amy Evans - MA Show

Using a piece of contemporary music surrounding the idea of things being ‘in and out of control’ as a starting point for Amy's MA Project.

"My work explores the use of different media to convey narrative illustrations. The narrative context of my work is integral to the interactivity between the viewer and the message behind it. Comprised of four themes (Love, War, Grey, and Forms) derived from a piece of music, I allow my work to remain accessible by using humour and narrative.

With an interest in natural forms, my work abstracts the human form, and using geometric shapes, marries the forms of man and nature to create humorous or grotesque combinations. The manipulation of the human form is something which in western society we use as a mean of control over our bodies. My prints distort the figure to create humorous characteristics which highlights how ridiculous we look when we try to control nature."

Just Have to Share - Charles Young Daily Paper Model Project

Edinburgh-based artist Charles Young has completed his daily paper model project that he started a year ago as a way to explore design, architecture, and model building.

Free font Work Sans by Wei Huang

Work Sans is a typeface based loosely on early Grotesques such as Stephenson Blake, Miller & Richard and Bauerschen Giesserei. There are 10 weights (the 10th Hairline weight is considered a bonus since CSS only allows for 9 weight families). The core of the fonts are optimised for on-screen medium-sized text usage (14px-48px) – but still can be used in print well. The fonts extreme weights are designed more for display use.

Just Have to Share - Pencraft of Jake Weidmann, the World’s Youngest Master Penman

In school, penman Jake Weidmann watched as his classmates typed notes in laptops. Weidmann instead wrote everything longhand with pen and paper, using every opportunity to practice and perfect his exquisite penmanship. The hard work quickly paid off he’s now one of only a dozen people designated as a master penman—not to mention the youngest by three decades.

This new video from Uproxx profiles Weidman has he talks a bit about his process and shows off some of his delicate pencraft, much more of which you can see on his website where he also shares his paintings, drawings, and sculptural work.
