The Rise of California Modern Design

CADRE Lecture Series Free Public Lecture by Professor Christopher Long (University of Texas)

6th March 2012, 6.00pm, MK045
The Rise of California Modern Design: Kem Weber and Paul T. Frankl

This talk will examine the work of two of the leading designers in Southern California in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, Kem Weber and Paul T. Frankl. Weber and Frankl, like many of those working in California in this period, were recent immigrants from Central Europe--Weber from Berlin, Frankl from Vienna.

This lecture will explore how the two men adapted to the special cultural climate of Los Angeles and, in turn, how their distinctive approaches contributed to fostering the specific look of California Modern design.
